Match Information Needs and Development Goals
What development goals do we hope this web
based information is going to meet? What is the intended purpose
of the web site? How is that information going to be used
to improve health, educational attainment, and income levels
in deprived communities, the export earnings of the country
for example? How is the information that is going to be accessed
via the web site going to meet particular development objectives?
Define the type and nature of information
that is needed to achieve a development objective. Most web
sites provide many types of information intended for different
purposes. It is however effective to minimise the number of
different purposes for the web site inorder to increase its
effectiveness. For example, the provision of factual information
on socio-economic development activities will target staff
working in health. The content has to be therefore of the
right quality and quantity to meet their professional needs.
If the resource is going to be used to improve educational
attainment for primary school children in rural areas, there
would be a need for more visuals, animation, sound and less
text - consider also the implications of the preceding guidelines
e.g. access speed to the Internet.
