The Building Blocks of PAPWEC
This web knitters' manual is based on a
participatory web design methodology - A People Approach to
Produce Web Content (PAPWEC), that can be followed in the
design and production of web based information resources that
can be used to achieve development goals.
The cornerstone of the methodology is the
recognition that the development of web based information
should involve the eventual users of the resource from the
inception of the web development project, throughout the project's
life-cycle and more so, after the web site has been uploaded
to the Internet. This participation can be best realised through
carrying out an intensive information needs analysis of the
target audience and also assessing their current socio-economic
circumstances and development goals. These exercises can be
undertaken at the same time or separately, but what is important
is that the exercises should eventually lead to the design
of the content that will be geared towards providing information
that can directly or indirectly impact on their lives.
