Togo gained independence in 1960. It occupies a total landmass
of about 57,000 square kilometres. Burkina Faso borders
it to the north, Ghana to the west, Benin to the east, with
the remainder sitting on the Gulf of Guinea.

The terrain contains: lagoons, rivers, plateaux, pains,
savannah grassland, and tropical rain forests. The forests

various fruits and vegetables, yams, cassava, peanuts, cattle,
goats, sheep, cocoa, copra, cotton palm oil and kernel,
are farmed for domestic and export purposes.
Its mineral and resource deposits include: bauxite, iron-ore,
phosphate, and chromite.
Industrial and manufacturing activities include: mining,
textile and wood processing.
The principal exports are phosphate, iron-ore, chromite,
bauxite, and cattle.
