Liberia is reputed to be the oldest republic
in Africa, with an independent, republican history
that dates back to the 1880s. It occupies a total
landmass of about 99,067 square kilometres. Its
capital and main port is Monrovia. The terrain
is occupied by rich, dense tropical rain forest,
savannah grassland, mangrove swamps, and coastal
sands. Plants and trees in Liberia include: coffee,
cocoa, rubber, and palms. The climate is tropical,

Liberia contains a wealth of well over 100 identified
species of wildlife, which include: leopards and
wild cows, elephants, antelopes, chimpanzees,
monkeys, hippopotamus, manatee, and a variety
of rare birds.
The economy is agriculture based. Palm oil and
kernel, sweet potatoes, plantain, sugarcane, rice,
cassava, and rubber are farmed for domestic and
export purposes.
There are vast deposits of iron-ore in the country.
Its industries are: iron-ore, timber, and rubber
processing plants. The principal exports are:
iron-ore, rubber, wood and timber.
