Roads in The Gambia - Gambia Road Transportation

The road system of The Gambia has improved remarkably in recent years in line with Government's demonstrated intention to extend the basic road network across the country, and to maintain and upgrade the existing network.

At the moment, the country's road network consists of over 510 km of tarred road, around 700 km of laterite road, and some 1,000 km of earth road.

The transport sector is highly liberalised, comprising of a public transport corporation and fleets of vehicles by private operators. There are no railways in The Gambia
